If the jeweler is finding excuses then do not buy it and leave the shop as the jeweler may be hiding something. There are many types of fake diamond in circulation in the market and a jeweler can easily sell them to a less informed customer as a genuine diamond engagement ring. So, get all the possible knowledge about the ring and the diamond you intend to buy.
